Final Cover Page
Welcome Back! I've decided on which cover page I'll be presenting on my final magazine.
This one is the winner! Like I mentioned on my last blog, I feel like on this cover page everything correlates and matches with one another, the colors go together and the background helps emphasize my genre of "Street Wear" since the background is an outside street background. I also feel like this cover page matches the House Style of my partners' cover pages as well.

Cover Page Draft
Hello! I've been working on my final magazine cover page and so far I have come up with a few cover pages, there are two that I'm debating on so far. Here are the two below:
Photoshoot!
Welcome Back Everyone! For this blog I'll be showing some of the photoshoot pictures that I took of my best friend for my magazine since she's someone who loves street fashion! These are pictures that I took of her at her house and a couple I took when we were out together a couple weeks ago and felt like her outfit matched the look for my magazine. I took a lot, probably more than I need but I rather have a good hand of selections that I can choose from. So here are some!

Feature Article
Glad to see your back! Here is my feature article for my magazine based off of the interview I did on my best friend about fashion:
Heads turn as Jontavia Bailey walks through the halls of American Senior High! 18 year old Bailey is recognized for her great sense of fashion as it stands out to the eye of many individual’s. Her style is recognized greatly in school especially with the fact that the school is a mandatory uniform school and she still manages to dress the uniform up and look unique. She has been standing out and recognized by her sense of fashion since middle school and she gets even better with her style as time goes by.
“I love your outfit” “You look cute” rings in the ears of Jontavia frequently when she is out in public. Of course having to get her eye for fashion from somewhere, her mom is the blueprint. Her mother has a great eye when it comes to fashion and this has been passed down to her daughter. Ever since Bailey was a little girl, her mother would dress her up nicely in lovely coordinated outfits and of course as time went by, Jontavia became adapted to style and cute little outfits. Eighth grade is when she began going on her own path with fashion, instead of her mom picking out everything for her, Bailey started picking out her own clothes with only little guidance from her mom. As she began going off on her own with her clothing choices, she received many compliments.
Let’s not mistake the definition of fashion for only being about clothing and shoes. Jontavia praises the jewelry, lifestyle, makeup, and hairstyles that are a part of the aspects of fashion. Fashion includes all aspects that make the look come together as a whole, not only the clothing. “Fashion is a way to express one’s individuality”, says Bailey. Fashion to her is a way of being distinct from others, not everyone will have the same sense of fashion as each other and not everyone will like the same sense of fashion as each other. To her, fashion is about wearing things and having hairstyles that YOU love, no matter if it doesn’t adhere to someone else’s sense of fashion. Jontavia emphasizes that it doesn’t matter if the clothing or look is out-of-date or if they are unpopular, fashion is fashion and it makes you distinct from others; she prefers looking different instead of following the current trends.
Chic Fashion is what she would consider as her personal style, as many categories fall under this. What she adores the most about chic fashion is the simplicity and beauty of it. Jontavia usually wears typical components of this stylish clothing which includes dresses, skirts, purses, and heels. Bailey explains that she also likes to wear elegant streetwear. “A good pair of baggy, ripped jeans worn with a crop top, heels, or even sneakers”, is what she describes as what she would wear when she decides that she is in a street wear mood. She combines different styles together and this is what helps her stand out. The brand “Chanel” appeals to this style that she has which is why she adores the company and why it’s her favorite brand.
The 18 year old fashionista dearly loves fashion, but as a career field she wants to be a Dermatologist. For her, this doesn’t mean she’s going to toss her love and passion for fashion to the side. As she works toward her career as a dermatologist, Bailey wants to have a fashion role on the side. Jontavia has been thinking about creating an Instagram Page dedicated to fashion, where she will post different outfits and styles that she comes up with that she believes looks good. She wants to do this so others can have inspiration on what to wear, basically like an online stylist. Since she is frequently asked by peers her age on putting outfits together, she figures why not do this so everyone can have access to her great eye on style and fashion. As time goes by, she hopes this passion for fashion never burns out and hopes that it continues becoming a lifestyle for her!

Interview Questions
Hey everyone! So for my streetwear fashion magazine, I decided to interview my best friend. My best friend is someone who has always been into fashion and dresses up in streetwear clothing, so I figured why not interview her. I felt as though she would be the perfect candidate since she knows a lot about fashion. Below I will provide you with the questions I asked her and her responses to the questions.
1. When did you first become interested in fashion?
My mom was a big influence on my passion in fashion since I was little, she always dressed me properly and cutely. She has always had a good sense of fashion. She would like always dress me in cute coordinated outfits. As I've gotten older, maybe like eighth grade, I've started to choose my own clothes with my mom's guidance and I've gotten a lot of compliments on them. My fashion sense has gotten better as I got older though and a lot of people recognize me from how I dress. I learned how to dress up my uniform clothes that I have to wear to school everyday. People compliment me in school a whole lot and they occasionally ask me for help in picking outfits for themselves. Even when I'm out in public I always hear I love your outfit or you look cute.
2. Define fashion. What is fashion to you?
To me fashion isn't only about clothing, it includes everything that makes the look come together like, jewelry, lifestyle, makeup, and hairstyles. Honestly it's truly a way to express someone's own individuality and uniqueness from others. Not everyone finds the same clothing to be their style, some people may think certain clothing that someone else wear is ugly, while the person wearing it believes that it's cute and fits them. It's okay that others may not like my outfits because everyone has their own style and fashion wouldn't be fashion if everyone just walked around wearing the same clothes all the time. To me it's basically about wearing clothing that you yourself love no matter if the style is out of date or unpopular. I feel that it's better to be different than to just follow the current trends that you see going on now. I'm basically saying that fashion are aspects that make you stand out and be different from the rest.
3. How would you describe your personal style?
Chic Street fashion. Chic street fashion describes my personal sense of style. I like the simplicity and beauty of it. Stuff like dresses, skirts, purses, and heels with a street twist are the most common stylist clothing that I tend to wear often. I like elegant and simple items. A good pair of baggy, ripped jeans worn with a crop top, heels, or even sneakers are examples of elegant streetwear that Iike to wear often as well.
4. Tell me about your favorite brand and why is it your favorite brand?
Chanel is my favorite brand because it appeals to my sense of style which falls under chic, elegant, street, and girly. I love how all of their products are so stylish which is mainly why I adore the company, it catches my eye.
5. Is fashion something you would want to consider taking serious as a career?
Although I adore fashion very much, I want my career to be in the medical field. I would like to be a dermatologist but I would definitely want to have like a fashion thing going on - on the sidelines. I've been encouraged to help people with their style and with putting outfits together for them. So because of this I've been thinking about making an Instagram page dedicated to posting different outfits and styles that I come up with and that I think looks good so others can have ideas and inspiration on what to wear.
These are the 5 questions that I asked her and I made sure to let her know to be as in depth as possible. In the next blog I'll be providing the feature article that I created based off of her responses.

Practice Feature Article
Hello! For this blog I'll be showing you guys a sample of my practice feature article. This is what it would kind of look like:
Seventeen year old Alanis Vega is a girl of many dreams and goals. Apart of the Cambridge Program, Vega is a diligent student who doesn't give up even when the program can be overwhelming. Alanis wants a future for herself so she pushes forward by all means to receive the Bright Futures Scholarship. She is currently experiencing stress right now due to the program so she encourages everyone in high school to take time for yourself and care for your mental health; although school is important, your mental health is just as important.
Growing up having a hard working single mother, she looks up to her the most in life which is a factor in why Alanis is empathetic and wants to be the best that she can be in life in order to make her mother proud. Like many people, Vega isn't 100% sure what career she would like to take part in, but she makes sure she has a plan to fall back on in the mean time. Since she has a hobby for baking and cooking, she plans to get her degree in culinary arts since she has already made a big accomplishment of earning her culinary certificate. As Alanis completes her senior year and reaches her adult peak in life, we can assume that she'll be a successful person as her life swifts by.
This was just a short and simple sum up of how I would sort of begin writing my real feature article. Stay tuned for the real deal!

Practice Interview Questions
Welcome Back! Today I will be telling you guys about the practice interview I did on one of my classmates. For my magazine I will need to interview someone on fashion experience and what it means to them. When I get the information from the person I'll be interviewing, I will create a Lead for my magazine. So for this blog it'll just be a practice run.
Before conducting my practice interview on my peer, I came up with some questions that basically would help me get to know who she is as a person. I tried to come up with open ended questions so I can get as much information as possible to create a Lead on her. I created a number of 10 in depth questions. I'll provide the questions that I asked below and her answers:
1. What career path are you seeking & why do you want it as your career? When did you become interested in this career?
I currently don’t know for certain what I want my career to be. However, I’m thinking of getting my degree in culinary arts while I still try to figure it out. I started baking in 7th grade due to a culinary class I took and it has become a hobby of mine ever since.
2. If you could restart high school all over again, would you still participate in the Cambridge Program? Why or Why not?
Yes, I would still participate in the Cambridge program. Although the program can become stressful at times, I still would like the opportunity to earn the Bright Futures scholarship.
3. Who is someone in your life that you consider a hero/role model and why?
Someone in my life that I consider my role model is my mother. As a single mother of 3, she had to balance life, work, taking care of my siblings and I, and making sure we never lacked anything.
4. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I hope that in five years I will have already chosen my future career path and I’m satisfied with my choices.
5. What qualities do you admire about yourself the most?
The quality I admire about myself the most is my empathetic side. I like to be able to help people as much as possible and if within my abilities.
6. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
If I could live anywhere in the world, it would be Italy. The reason is simply because I love pasta.
7. If you could go back in time to change one thing, what would it be?
One thing I would change, if I were to go back in time, is that I should’ve taken more AICE classes during my sophomore and junior year in order to lower the stress I am currently experiencing.
8. What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy reading, drawing, baking, or listening to music.
9. What is your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishment is being able to pass the test to earn my culinary certificate and being able to have made it this far.
10. What advice would you give someone about high school that you wish someone would've told you?
An advice I would give that I wish someone would’ve told me about high school is that it’s important to take time for yourself and care for your mental health.
With her answers to these questions, I plan on trying to do a descriptive lead, which describes a scene, person, or subject. I'll of course be describing her and providing information about her based on her answers to these questions. Stay tuned for my next blog, it'll be the practice descriptive lead.

Lead Practice 2
Welcome Back! In this blog I'll be continuing to share my lead practice that I've been doing for my AICE Media Studies class. As I stated in the previous blog, I created leads based off of paragraphs we were given. This time the strategic lead method that I'll be using is a Descriptive Lead.
Another Refresher: A Descriptive Lead is a lead that describes a scene, person, or subject
I created my descriptive lead based off of this paragraph below:
Thomas J. Serle works for Parker Bros. Circus, which is in town this week. Performances are scheduled at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. every day through Sunday, beginning today. Serle, who maintains a home in Fort Lauderdale, is a laborer who helps care for the animals at the circus, including 10 elephants. During a conversation with a reporter, he said: "Some people look on work with a circus as a glamorous job. It ain't. But I been doing it all my life, and it's too late for me to change. I'll be 60 next year. I was born into it. Both my folks were circus people. I started out as an acrobat until I fell and busted a leg. It never healed quite right, so they offered me this job, and I took it. What else could I do? There's all kinds of myths about circuses, like about these elephants here. Some people say they're afraid of mice, but that's crazy. When we pen the elephants up for the winter there's always mice that get in their hay, and it don't bother them none. The elephants never try to run away or stomp them or anything. They share the same cages all winter. And then some people say elephants got a good memory. Hell, some of the ones we got are so dumb they can't remember a simple trick from one year to the next.
My Descriptive Lead:
Thomas J. Serle is a 59 year old man who is accustomed to circus life because he was born into a circus family. Thomas is a laborer who contributes to the circus's animal care. Although you would think that Serle loves the virus life because that's all he is used to, he does not love the circus life. Thomas seems to not be a big fan of change because he's only sticking to the circus life because that's all he knows. He started out as an acrobat but had to refrain from this position because he hurt his leg due to a fall and the leg never healed. Over the years he has become knowledgeable about circus myths that he is now able to give the truth about.
For this lead I tried to just describe the kind of person Thomas was and what his lifestyle and thinking consisted of. I started off with the name of the person and age to put the focus on who he is. The factsheet paragraph that I chose for this "Descriptive" strategy lead seemed to be the best fit because it was already describing the life of Thomas. I would definitely say that the previous strategic lead strategy that I did was way more easier.
On my next blog, I'll be providing a last look into my Lead Practice with different strategic lead methods.

Lead Practice 1
Thanks for staying tuned! As promised, I'll be showing how I've been doing with practicing leads. We received an assignment in my AICE Media Studies class where we had to write leads based on a factsheet paragraph. On this blog I'll be showing my "Twist" Lead.
Just to refresh your memory if you've forgotten, a "Twist" Lead is a lead that sets the reader up for one mood and then twists it, it surprises the reader.
I created my twist lead based off of this paragraph below:
Someone called 18 people in the city last night. The caller identified himself as the president of Rutherford Ford, Inc., 2780 Doss Boulevard. He told each of the people that they had just won a new car from his dealership. Interviewed by reporters today, most of the people who received the calls said that at first they just couldn't believe it. And they were right. They couldn't. The person who called was a prankster, and Allen Rutherford, president of the dealership, says he has no idea who placed the calls, and that he's spending all his time today trying to explain the situation to those 18 people. "Someone apparently has a sick idea of humor," Rutherford said. After convincing people they had won a new car, the caller asked them to drop by the dealership this morning to pick it up. All 18 were there when the dealership opened its doors at 9 a.m. "I told them we never offered to give away a car," Rutherford said. "One woman told me she couldn't believe she'd won, and then she told me she couldn't believe it when I told her she hadn't. Two other women began to cry, and a man is threatening to sue me."
My Twist Lead:
Upfront and ready at the doors of the dealership, a group of 18 individuals who yearned for the brand new cars that they won were front and center at the car dealership at 9am on the dot. They were so surprised that they had been lucky winners, they couldn’t believe their ears when the president of the dealership called. Turns out, they probably shouldn’t have been so quick to believe their ears. It came to light that these 18 individuals were not lucky individuals of anything, they never won brand new cars. These individuals were victims of a sick phone prank as it came to light that the president of the dealership never called any one of them.
I chose that factsheet paragraph for a "Twist" lead because I felt as though the story was perfect for a Twist Lead since in the story people were deceived and were thinking one thing when it really was another. I tried to set it up as a good mood in the beginning as I started it off with the individuals getting ready to collect their new cars that they were getting then I revealed that they weren't actually getting new cars. I enjoyed getting a feel and brainstorming on this Twist Lead that I created. This is my first time creating a lead and coming up with a twist to it so of course it isn't going to be the greatest lead that anyone has ever read, but I believe that with more practicing and coming to better understandings on leads, I'll be able to do way better.
Until next time, I'll be sharing my practice on 2 other strategic lead methods!

What is a Lead?
Hello Everyone and Welcome Back! Today we will be talking about an aspect that helps us write a feature story that we would need in order to create our magazine.
The key word in this blog will be "Lead".
A lead is an aspect that helps us write a feature story that we would need in order to create our magazine. Specifically, a lead is an introductory sentence that, while keeping the reader's attention, succinctly and clearly presents the audience with the most crucial details of the news item. Even if a reader only skims your opening paragraph, they should still be able to tell what the piece is about and what the most crucial details are. A lead can be a sentence, a paragraph, or even a page long. The lead should be specific to the story, should be in third person, should fit the mood/tone of the story, and shouldn’t be filled with cliches.
There are numerous methods for crafting a strong lead and so far we have learned about the ones below.
- Narrative: Tells a Story
- Descriptive: Describes a scene/person
- Direct Quote: Should be used sparingly & Must be a very powerful quote
- Startling Statement: Creates Drama
- Contrast & Compare: Contrasting/Comparing ideas
- Twist: Sets reader up for one mood and then twists it, surprises the reader
Writing devices for these leads include repetition, short & punchy sentences, dialogue, mixing sentence length to set a rhythm, and allowing the use of starting a sentence with the word "And".
Some ways that you can go wrong with creating a lead that catches a reader's attention is by using news or editorial leads using first or second person, stating the obvious, leads starting with "Imagine this..", and as stated earlier, using cliches.
All these helpful tips are my guidelines that I'll use when I do rough drafts and practices of creating my own leads.
Stay tuned, on my next blogs I'll be updating you guys on my lead practice writing!
